Of her next broadcast (Sunday, April 5), DJ Darla Bea writes:

“‘While you’re at the job working nine to five/
The Beastie Boys at the Garden/
Cold kickin’ it live.’

Tune in to 91.9 KCSB-FM from 8-10pm tonight as we take a musical journey exploring the mean streets of Brooklyn —  and celebrate New York City hip-hop culture.

This next lesson of Santa Barbara’s School of Rock is inspired the music of the former hardcore punk quartet that twenty years ago displayed their skills as an underground rap trio on tour with none other than the Material Girl herself, Madonna Louise Ciccone.

The Beastie Boys went on to become one of the most influential hip-hop acts of all time. My next broadcast will pay tribute to that brilliance — and honor the late-great Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, who passed away in 2012.

Hear artists from:

  • the early days of NYC hip hop and “thrash” punk;
  • friends and fans from the indie and alternative-rock scenes of the 1990s through today;
  • and Brooklyn acts that are similarly innovative, and equally enlightened.

Join me, DJ Darla Bea: We’ll ‘Rock the Sure Shot!‘”

“Rock It Properly” airs on Sundays in the spring from 8-10pm PDT.
