This Thursday, March 6th, at 8pm, pop-music legend Burt Bacharach makes a grand return to Santa Barbara County for a concert at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez. (The 85-year-old Library of Congress Gershwin Prize winner — the country’s highest musical honor — attended the Music Academy of the West in Montecito in 1955.)
KCSB-FM programmer Ted Coe writes: “Burt Bacharach has been the subject of three previous hour-long specials on ‘The Freak Power Ticket.’
This Monday, March 3rd, my music-and-cultural-arts show continues a career-spanning retrospective with an assortment of songs associated with the great composer and performer: a playlist featuring numerous Bacharach hit-singles and album tracks, plus tributes, samples, remixes, and covers — mostly from the late 1960s through today, in a wide range of genres.
Today’s show (and at least one future broadcast) will feature Bacharach’s music as interpreted by: Burt Bacharach himself; San Diego “voodoobilly” band Deadbolt; collage and sound artist P. Miles Bryson; jazz musicians Ernie Watts, Sylvain Luc, Charles Lloyd, and Medeski Martin & Wood; punk-rockers The Chubbies and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches; indie-rock and electronic artists The Avalanches, Yuka Honda and Sean Lennon (of Cibo Matto), and Pulp; Brazilian musicians Astrud Gilberto and Wilson Simonal; Bacharach’s best musical co-conspirator since the late-’90s, Elvis Costello; soul and pop divas Shirley Bassey, Trijntje Oosterhuis, and Stephanie Mills; and Bacharach’s greatest muse, Dionne Warwick too. Plus more!”
(The Chumash Casino Resort is at 3400 California Highway 246, in Santa Ynez.)
“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the winter from 11am-noon.
