PIreliefToday, Thursday November 14, KCSB will be making a special contribution to relief efforts in the Philippines following the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan earlier this week.

In an effort to provide emergency aid and promote awareness of the situation, KCSB will be concerting its Fund Drive efforts with this cause by donating 50% of the funds raised on the 14th to Direct Relief International,a SB-based charity sending aid to the affected areas, and is consistently rated as a great charity with very low overhead.

A letter from some KCSB staff:

As KCSB’s annual fund drive winds down, continuing our legacy of supporting communities in times of need, the radio station’s student leadership has elected to contribute half of today’s proceeds to Direct Relief International to assist with relief efforts for the people of the Philippines who have been devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

We are reaching out to the greater UCSB campus community now to let you know that operators will be standing by until 12 midnight today to take your pledge in support of the people of the Philippines and your local, noncommercial community radio station. Or you can donate online at http://www.kcsb-fm.dreamhosters.com//donate-online.

We invite you to tune in to programs such as “Third World News Review,” “KCSB News,” “Deutsche Welle’s Developing World,” “Women’s International News Gathering Service (WINGS),” “No Alibis,” and “Democracy Now!,” all of which bring underreported news from around the globe to our listening public.

We thank our listener-sponsors for their ongoing support that has enabled this vital community resource to continue operation for over fifty years.
