heckerThis week on The Marketplace of Ideas, Colin Marshall talks to Montreal-based electronic musician and sound artist Tim Hecker. Hecker’s music explores the intersection between noise, dissonance and melody, and has been variously described as “structured ambient,” “tectonic color plates,” and “cathedral electronic music” and, by theNew York Times as, “foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole.” He has also worked in contemporary dance, art installation and text. His new album, An Imaginary Country, is newly released from Kranky Records.

The Marketplace of Ideas every Thursday at noon.
