Of her next broadcast, DJ Darla Bea says, “Class is in Session!

It’s going to feel like Carnaval on the radio airwaves later tonight with a lesson on the Music of Brazil from Santa Barbara’s School of Rock.

Fifty years ago, the song “Garota de Ipanema” (“The Girl from Ipanema”) by Stan Getz and João Gilberto, with vocals by Astrud Gilberto, won the award for Record of the Year at the 7th annual Grammy Awards (the LP it was from, Getz/Gilberto, also won Album of the Year).

On ‘Rock It Properly’ tonight, learn:

• who the real girl from Ipanema was
• why Carmen Miranda went bananas
• about all of the various musical genres associated with Brazilian culture (Samba, Bossa Nova & Tropicalismo).

Learn with me, DJ Darla Bea, on KCSB-FM Community Radio.

And get ready to Rock Out!”

“Rock It Properly” airs on Sundays in the summer from 8-10pm PDT.
