Ted Coe, host of “The Freak Power Ticket,” looks for both the mystical and even absurd deeper meanings of the holiday season by sifting through folk traditions and offbeat/recycled works from cult cinema, television, and popular culture.

He writes: “Learn about science-fiction undertones in Christmas stories. Meet the diabolical counterpart of Old Saint Nick. Celebrate the pagan Winter Solstice festival. Hear about African and African-American responses to the season. Reflect on the spirits of generosity, gift economies, anti-commercialism, and even resistance as we ‘Occupy Xmas’ here on KCSB.

During the latter quarter of the program, guest Harry Lawton will join me for a review of the Wireless art exhibition at the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, open now through January 8th: a free opportunity that might be enjoyed during holiday vacationing.”

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays from 11am-12noon in the Fall.
