Under the guidance of Interim News Director Sarah Manski and Associate News Director Julissa Villatoro, since the fall KCSB News has been producing live newscasts each weeknight at 5pm, bringing you the latest from the Tri-Counties area, the UCSB campus and the greater University of California system, plus domestic and international news as contextualized by perspectives from close to home.
With over a dozen volunteer reporters from the local community, our nightly news of late has addressed issues such as:
the move towards district elections in the City of Santa Barbara;
- ecological initiatives such as anti-fracking campaigns and research into the environmental impact of war on the planet;
- anti-racist activism in the wake of the Ferguson tragedy;
- the movement to overturn fee hikes throughout the University of California;
- area events of interest including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival;
- and much more.
Our team is also currently preparing to do field reporting from the next regular meeting of the University Regents in the City of San Francisco (on the 18th-19th of this month).
So tune in Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5pm for our 15 minutes newscasts, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-530pm for a full half-hour of this specialized, independent-news reporting
