summer shineOn Saturday, August 11th, West Coast Next Time And Buffalo Records presents “Summer Shine Fest 2007” With The Tyde (Rough Trade Records), The Japanese Motors (featuring pro surfer Alex Knost), Franklin For Short and The Spires (both from Ventura), Tom Brosseau (“The North Dakota Kid”), and several other bands from throughout Southern California: Catwalk, Bridgess And I’m Ok U Ok, Maria, Luke Top, Bolero, Northern 2, Winter Flowers, and The Growlers. There will also be DJs, food, a post-concert Dance Party, and more – all at Mai’s Café, which is at 2815 East Main Street, in Ventura. popcornThat same evening, Saturday, August 11th, the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum hosts the POPCORN! Short Film and Video Festival, an outdoor screening of short films and videos ranging from animation and drama to comedy and documentaries for adults and youth alike. This year’s event features a special live performance by self-taught animated filmmaker Brent Green, accompanied by a three-piece orchestra (Green, Rodney McLaughlin, and the mighty Jim Becker of the indie-rock band Califone). Audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair for a summer’s night of movies (showtime is from 7-9PM), outside Samy’s Camera, which is at 614 Chapala St., in Santa Barbara.
