Today’s broadcast of “The Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, December 15) marks the return of Krampus to the KCSB-FM airwaves.

Hear producer/host Ted Coe and guest host Atilla the fun (formerly of KCSB’s “Third Stream Radio”) as they pay homage to Krampus, the merciless alpine beast of European lore who shadows Saint Nicholas, threatening recalcitrant children with punishment and abduction.

In recent years, Krampus has emerged in the U.S. in part due to books by Monte Beauchamp (including The Devil in Design: The Krampus Postcards and Krampus: The Devil of Christmas), and appearances on network television programs like American Dad and Grimm.

What’s more, a number of West Coast creative communities are producing Krampus events, including Krampusfest Los Angeles, which included a “Krampus art show, performances, music, and street appearances by LA’s first Krampus Troupe.”

Today’s program will revisit segments from the program’s 2013 “Krampus on Campus” special, adding new Krampus-affiliated songs, folk legends, and other pop-culture connections. We’ll wish “Gruss vom Krampus” to all — and to all a terrific holiday season!

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the fall from 11am-12noon on KCSB.
