At 1:00pm on Sunday, April 29th, the UCSB Baseball team hosts UC Davis at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in the series rubber match. After pounding the Aggies 8-2 in Game 1 of the series, the Gauchos had trouble keeping up with the offensive output of UC Davis as they fell 10-6. The Gauchos jumped out in front early with a Lance Roenicke RBI in the top of the first inning, but the Aggies were quick to respond in the 3rd inning with a 3 run output, topped by a 2-run homer from Kevin Barker. The Aggies seemed to be bent on revenge during the game, as they laid on 4 more runs before the end of the 5th inning, with a 3-run shot from Scott Kalush as the team’s exclamation point. UCSB made a brief comeback in the bottom of 7th inning triggered by an Aggie error, which eventually resulted in a 3-run homer from Lance Roenicke bringing the deficit down to a single run. But the Aggies would not be denied as they put the game out of reach in the top of the 9th inning by lighting up Kevin Gelinas for 3 runs, resulting in the 10-6 final. Now the Gauchos will be playing for the series win today as they try to keep pace with Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State for the top spot in the Big West.
