In 2006, Los Angeles’s alternative-rock quartet Los Abandoned, who alternated between Spanish, English, and “Spanglish” lyrics, released their only album of music Mix Tape on Neil Young’s label Vapor Records. In 2009, at the inaugural New Noise Digital Media Conference & Festival, KCSB-FM presented a locally-oriented showcase that featured Pilar Díaz, the former frontwoman of Los Abandoned (whose stage name with that group was “Lady P”).
Again redubbed, María Del Pilar returns to the Santa Barbara area to play a concert in the intimate Euphoria Hookah Lounge (434A E. Haley St.), opening for Nina Diaz (no relation), the frontwoman of the San Antonio-based indie-rock trio Girl in a Coma.
On today’s edition of “The Freak Power Ticket,” producer / host Ted Coe will interview María Del Pilar near the top of the program, featuring selections of music from her deebut solo record Songs + Canciones I (Cosmica Records, 2013) and Los Abandoned. The rest of the program will feature music by other “roc en español” and Latin-influenced artists, and more.
“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the Summer from 11am-1pm PDT.
