Of his next broadcast, host Dick Flacks writes, “This week on ‘Culture of Protest’ another musical mix reflecting happenings of the week, historical and contemporary. We’ll feature some songs inspired by the Olympics that celebrate socially conscious heroism–like Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owen, John Carlos and what happened to their medals.

In the aftermath of Aurora, it seems apt to play some of the efforts by songwriters to musically deal with the issue of guns and everyday mass killing.

And then there is the A-bomb–Hiroshima Day next Monday we’ll observe with songs that span the 67 years since the US incinerated that city on an August afternoon.”

“Culture of Protest” airs Thursdays in the summer from 6-7pm
