KCSB’s Golden-Anniversary-Year Fund Drive started on November 9th and runs through November 18th. Legendary composer Ennio Morricone turned 83 on November 10th.

On Monday, November 14th, from 11am-12 noon on “The Freak Power Ticket,” host Ted Coe greets “Euro Film Score” expert John Bender onto the airwaves for a celebration of both Il Maestro and “50 Years of People-Powered Radio!”

Ennio Morricone

Coe writes: “Freelance film music journalist John Bender is the go-to guy for ’60s-’70s Italian and other European film-score reissue liner notes. On Monday, he and I will give listeners a guided tour through Ennio Morricone’s 500+ motion picture and television soundtracks.

Best known for his scores for Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Western classics, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West, Morricone is also acclaimed for his role in the sub-genre of swinging Euro Lounge music. Monday’s ‘The Freak Power Ticket’ will zero in on Morricone’s Horse Operas and Psychedelic Pop, while also exploring his influence on both peers and later generations alike.

A revival of interest in Morricone has resulted from the inclusion of his work in Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds (2009); Mike Patton‘s LP Mondo Cane (2010); and the 2011 tribute record, Rome, created by Danger Mouse (of Gnarls Barkley fame), Italian musician Daniele Luppi, Jack White (The White Stripes), Nora Jones, and a stable of Morricone’s longtime collaborators.

Alongside this festive topic, we’ll also be asking you to show your SUPPORT for Santa Barbara’s freeform community-radio institution, KCSB 91.9 FM.

If you donate during the program, we’ll even throw in some cool thank-you gifts, like the Rome CD, subscriptions to Video Watchdog (a cult-film magazine dubbed ‘The Perfectionist’s Guide to Fantastic Video’), commemorative ’50 Years of People Powered Radio’ KCSB-FM t-shirts, and more: $25 for students and $50 for non-students! Just CALL (805) 893-2424!

Let’s all wish Ennio Morricone a Very Happy Birthday and Celebrate KCSB’s 50 Years of People Powered Radio! Tune into my next broadcast and support KCSB!”

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays from 11am-12Noon throughout the Fall.
