As the Mekons once sagely put it, “Turning journalists into heroes takes some doing,” so we probably won’t do that this week, because anything that takes too much doing just hurts. (We are lazy, we are proud.) But we will feature journalism and the news as our theme, and that means expect clips with stentorian voices by the likes of Orson Welles, Peter Finch, and David Straitharn along with all the fine music that’s been about the news, from Cat Power to The Vapors, The Kinks to the New Pornographers (and as for those last two, what band names could be more fitting for the worst aspects of “journalism”?). And maybe a George Carlin bit seven minutes long without a single one of the seven words.
“Frank ‘n’ George” airs 10 am – 12 noon this fall.
