A group of family members of prisoners in Pelican Bay State Prison’s Security Housing Units (SHUs) organized a charter bus to offer free rides for other family members to visit their loved ones at Pelican Bay. The trip was organized by California Families Against Solitary Confinement (CFASC) in an effort to support families who have been unable to make the long trip to Pelican Bay due to financial restraints. Dolores Canales, mother of a SHU inmate and an organizer of the trip, joins Elizabeth Robinson after the news to report on the trip and future plans. The SHUs are considered to be gross violations of human rights by international human rights organizations and prisoners have undergone repeated hunger strikes to protest conditions. In the second hour, more ‘book tastings’. Join us.
