Mike Rotkin, UC-AFT Chief Negotiator for represented librarians at the University of California Library system and several librarians talked with Elizabeth Robinson about the current bargaining situation between the librarians (Unit 17) and U.C. Administration. Specifically, the discussion focused on the administration’s unfair practice of withholding merit increases for represented librarians, a tactic the administration had used in the last round of negotiations, but failed.Roughly 1/3 of librarians are affected by the current action of the administration to compel librarians to give up certain rights pertaining to planned changes in retirement benefits and accept a contract extension.
