Of his next edition of “The Freak Power Ticket,” host Ted Coe says:

“This week, I’ll share a longtime interest in the songwriting of composer, singer, and actor Paul Williams.

Known as the man behind a pair of chart-toppers by The Carpenters (and other easy-listening hits), Williams is actually quite prolific and influential, worthy of a reappraisal much like what the brother/sister musical duo received after the late 1980s.

In particular, this special program is inspired by a late ’90s concert honoring Williams that featured hip Los Angeles bands like The Negro Problem and The Wondermints. A lifelong passion for Williams’ film musicals Phantom of the Paradise and Bugsy Malone, and recent notable cover songs and references, convinced me to tackle my own tribute.

Tune in Monday, January 17th, for a glimpse into the life and work of this quirky cult figure, and a key selection of the man’s catchy tunes. Featuring songs by: Ella Fitzgerald, Three Dog Night, Dizzee Rascal, David Bowie, Grant Lee Buffalo, Fifteen, The Carpenters, Scissor Sisters, and more.

Plus, of course, Paul Williams!”
