duttonThis Thursday on The Marketplace of Ideas, Colin Marshall talks to Denis Dutton, professor of philosophy at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand and founding editor of the popular cultural web portal Arts and Letters Daily. Dutton’s new book, The Art Instinct, proposes a radical, biologically-informed change of perspective toward art, a break from the existing academic paradigm that incorporates essentially none of the insights into humanity revealed by Darwinian evolution. (Longtime KCSB listeners may recall that Dutton, a UCSB alumnus, was the station’s general manager in the early 1960s when it first began broadcasting in FM.)

The Marketplace of Ideas normally airs Thursdays at noon, butvthis week will air at 12:30 due to the day’s UCSB Reads broadcast.
