The next taping of Proboscis Radio Theater‘s Live from the Piano Kitchen, a variety radio program recorded in front of a live downtown Santa Barbara audience on the first Saturday of every month, will instead take place for the first time on campus: this Saturday night, February 2nd, from 10-1130pm, in Girvetz Theater at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A benefit for KCSB-FM Community Radio, donations will be taken at the door to kick off KCSB’s annual fund drive 2013, “KCSB You Rock My World.”

A ninety-minute radio variety program that features original radio drama, live musical guests, comedy, storytelling, and interviews, the monthly show has been dubbed a “Prairie Home Companion” for local Santa Barbarans, and is broadcast on KCSB-FM 91.9 ( from 10:00-11:30pm, the same time the following week. UCSB Theater Department Faculty member Jeff Mills, writer/actor Michael Bernard, and local composer/bass player Jim Connolly co-host and co-produce the show.

An original radio drama (written by Bernard) will be performed by a cast made up of UCSB Theater Students, faculty members, and local actors. Bernard says, “We’re excited to share this latest Piano Kitchen performance with a live audience at the University for the very first time, as we already have a number of existing ties to UCSB.” February’s guest performers will include spoken-word artist (and UCSB Art Department Faculty member) Kip Fulbeck and comedian Sean Conroy (Upright Citizens Brigade Theater/ASSSSCAT, Conan O’Brien, and the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival), plus the musical duo Jay Galvin (guitar) and Rachel Galvin (viola), and special surprise guests.

Doors will open at 930pm and the taped performance will kick off at 10pm sharp. Girvetz Hall (aka “Girvetz Theater”) is in Room #1004 in the Girvetz building on the UCSB Campus, across from the Davidson Library, immediately adjacent to the Arbor market and Kerr Hall. Off-campus visitors are encouraged to park in Campbell Hall lots (#12, 14 or 16). Contributions will be taken at the door, with all proceeds going to KCSB-FM Community Radio. The suggested donation is $10.
