world-aids-dayOf the next broadcast of “The Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, December 1st), DJ Ted Coe writes:

“For almost 25 years, the Red Hot Organization, a 501C3 culturally-oriented non-profit, has released about 20 themed-compilation albums that have have raised more than $10 million for AIDS research and education.

The first LP, Red Hot + Blue, featured 20 tracks by David Byrne, k.d. lang, U2, Annie Lennox, Tom Waits, Deborah Harry + Iggy Pop, and more, which covered or were inspired by the work of the early-20th Century theater-composer Cole Porter. Since that debut release in 1990, many of the best artists working in almost all musical genres from around the globe have contributed to the Red Hot Organization’s series of records.

During today’s special World AIDS Day program, I’ll spin my favorite tracks from the first six Red Hot releases, covering the early-to-mid 1990s.

Join me for an hour of reflections and terrific music, from alt-rock & alt-country to acid jazz and hip-hop — with a mission!”

“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the fall from 11am-12noon PST.
