On the next edition of “The Freak Power Ticket” (March 16th), producer/host Ted Coe welcomes Santa Barbara-musical mainstay Spencer Barnitz — of Spencer the Gardener and The Tan — to KCSB for a live in-studio performance, interview, and guest DJ set. The program airs during its regular Monday time slot, 11am-12noon PST.

Spencer & the Worried Lads return to SOhO Restaurant & Music Club this Tuesday, March 17th, for their annual “St. Patty’s Day Bash” starting at 5pm.

Barnitz’s first band The Tan formed while he was still in high school in the late 1970s.

By the early 1980s, the rock’n’roll quartet was ready for an industry breakthrough: with the support of Robbie Krieger of The Doors and Robbie Robertson of The Band, a major-label contract, inclusion in the Central Coast’s first surf movie, Off the Wall II, and a hit single in South America. We’ll hear their story as the missing link in this community’s early Punk Rock scene.

Best known for his group Spencer the Gardener, Spencer Barnitz creates high-energy music that his website describes as “California sun kissed, Latin tinged, genre bending, big band Surf Mariachi indie pop” perfectly suited for backyard parties, weddings, and the local airwaves.

Tune in from 11am-12noon on 91.9 FM or stream us live at www.kcsb.org/webcast to hear for yourself!
