The Rio Olympics reminds us of the fact that Brazil is one of the world’s most musically infused cultures—and that much of the music of recent decades has helped shape identity and politics there. This week on the radio we’ll feature the work of some of the legends of Brazil’s politically conscious music making, whose work has provided a soundtrack for the history of the last four decades. It’s inevitably going to be a frustratingly superficial musical collage—barely a taste. But don’t doubt that you’ll find it a beautiful and inspiring hour.
