Of her next broadcast, DJ Darla Bea writes:
“What a long, strange trip it’s been!
Take a musical journey with me tonight to the Bay Area, to celebrate Fifty Years of the Grateful Dead.
This summer, the world’s most-influential psychedelic-rock band will officially retire after two weekends of sold out shows in Santa Clara, California, and Chicago, Illinois. What’s more, there’s a new documentary that just debuted on Netflix, The Other One: The Long Strange Trip of Bob Weir, about the group’s surviving singer/guitarist, especially his relationship to the Grateful Dead’s late cofounder Jerry Garcia.
Listen up to ‘Rock It Properly’ tonight to hear an array of jam bands, musicians from San Francisco, and examples of the type of musical improvisation that the Dead were known for.
It’ll be ‘Haight Street Hype, San Fran Bands, and Jerry, man!’
Trip out all the way to the Bay, for two hours on Santa Barbara’s School of Rock.”
“Rock It Properly” airs on Sundays in the spring from 8-10pm PDT.
