This June marks the 40th Anniversary of the musical film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder.

Based on Roald Dahl’s book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willy Wonka‘s protagonist is Charlie Bucket, a poor paperboy living with his widowed mother and four bedridden grandparents in a tiny home in a vaguely European city. Candy maker Willy Wonka (Wilder) returns from seclusion with a contest that ends up bringing four other children and their chaperones, along with Charlie and his Grandpa Joe (Jack Albertson), into Wonka’s tightly-guarded factory for a fantastical tour.

Freak Power Ticket Host Ted Coe Channels Willy Wonka.

Host Ted Coe says of his next broadcast:

“My radio program has regularly referenced director Mel Stuart’s oddly psychedelic adaptation, which has resonated for me ever since my youth. On Monday’s program, I will be illustrating this cult film’s impact with a selection of songs from the original soundtrack, covers, audio snippets, criticism, and spoofs.

Come one, come all!
