Yacht Rock was an online situation comedy (running from 2006-2010) that followed the fictionalized lives and careers of American soft rock stars of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Inspired by that series, Monday’s edition of “The Freak Power Ticket” will examine renewed interest in such soft “yacht rock” artists as Santa Barbara residents Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, and Jimmy Messina, Steely Dan, McDonald-era Doobie Brothers, Daryl Hall and John Oates, and more. (Musician Donald Fagen will join McDonald, a former Steely Dan supporting player, with fellow soft-rock idol Boz Scaggs at the Santa Barbara Bowl on July 3rd.)

The program (hosted by Ted Coe) will sample audio from the brilliant pilot episode of the cult “Yacht Rock” program (the ‘behind the music’ story of “What a Fool Believes”), and will include: original tracks; soul, indie-rock, and hip hop covers and tributes; and playful commentary.

Stay tuned this Monday, June 4th to “The Freak Power Ticket” during its regular spring time slot – 11am-12noon – for a dose of really smooth music, as we breeze our way into summer…
