Monday 9/9 Update: Surprise guest, keyboardist/composer Dan Boer, joined Zac Pike in-studio for an interview and a Santa Barbara-music & rocksteady/ska/roots reggae DJ set.
SANTA BARBARA (Sunday, September 8) – On the next broadcast of “The Freak Power Ticket” (Monday, September 9), its producer/host Ted Coe writes:
“Tomorrow, I welcome back to the KCSB studios, composer/guitarist and lifelong Santa Barbaran Zac Pike, plus invited-guest, local songwriter/bassist Jubal Molitor.
To those who know them, Zac & Jubes are easily two of the most distinctive figures to emerge from this area’s punk-era music scene, but they’re also not as well known as I think they deserve to be.
Hence this long-anticipated appearance.
Just check out their collective affiliations & credits:
We’ll pay tribute to their local artistic influences & peers (like Crucial DBC), and hear: stories of and music from the local ska & roots-reggae scene since the 1980s, including the role of KCSB-FM’s programming; the sounds of Jamaican 45s; life in television; and what it’s like to tour with one’s music heroes (especially Jimmy Cliff, who is scheduled to play a free SoCal concert later this week, on Thursday, September 12th at the Santa Monica Pier).
And of course we’ll share numerous selections from their extensive body of work. Stay tuned for some amazing songs and inspiring tales, and maybe some surprise guests!
“The Freak Power Ticket” airs on Mondays in the Summer from 10am-12noon.
